The new semester in Pharmacology at Tulane has been incredible so far, with many exciting changes in how we learn. One of the biggest transitions has been moving from traditional module-based learning to a more interactive and hands-on approach. Courses like Neuropharmacology, Endocrine Pharmacology, and Advances in Pharmacology now require us to complete presentation work, which encourages more interaction with classmates. This shift not only deepens our understanding of the material but also allows us to practice presenting in front of our peers and instructors. It’s a great opportunity to build public speaking and presentation skills—essential tools for our future careers in pharmacology. In addition to my academic commitments, this semester will also be filled with volunteering and shadowing outside of class. I’ve been reaching out to hospitals in both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, including Baton Rouge General Hospital, to arrange volunteer opportunities. I’ve already been in contact with managers there and am working to start volunteering soon. I’m also exploring options in New Orleans, which will give me a broader range of experiences. This semester, I will be shadowing healthcare professionals again, which will be especially valuable after a three-year break from the hospital setting. This hands-on experience will allow me to reconnect with the healthcare environment and gain practical insights that will be useful in my studies.

Overall, this semester is shaping up to be incredibly eventful and demanding. Balancing school, volunteering, and shadowing will undoubtedly require hard work and dedication. However, I believe that the most important thing anyone can do for themselves is to learn to enjoy the process, even when things get busy. It’s all part of the journey toward building the skills and experiences needed for our future careers.
