LSU Pakistan Club ICC (4 hours) Event April 14, 2025
I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at two meaningful community events that helped me stay connected to both my culture and faith. The first event was with the Muslim Student Association (MSA), where I helped organize an iftaar, the evening meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan. It was held at the LSU Veterinary School, and I assisted with setting up tables and decorating the space to make it feel warm and welcoming. The event brought people together and everyone was able to share food, conversation, after a long day of fasting. The second event was hosted by the LSU Pakistan Club at the LSU International Cultural Center (ICC). It was a fun celebration of the Pakistani culture, and I helped prepare the space by arranging tables and decorations. During the event, I reconnected with old friends and caught up on each other’s lives. We talked about school, and some of them asked me about my experience in the master’s program at Tulane. I shared how much I’ve learned not just academically, but personally as well. I’ve developed stronger study habits, became more focused, and gained a deeper understanding of the connection between science, health, and community. Being in the Tulane Pharmacology master’s program has challenged me in the best ways. It’s helped shape me into someone who values education, service, and growth. Volunteering at these events reminded me how far I’ve come and how important it is to give back and stay rooted in who I am. This upcoming month I will be finishing up my volunteering experience by attending the New Orleans RESTOR to help the staff with moving furniture around the warehouse. The Baton Rouge soccer league will also be requiring one more flyer to be made for their championship game that will be coming up next month as well. It was fun reconnecting back to the community here in New Orleans and in Baton Rouge and being a role model to the other students that were once in my position throughout their undergraduate degree.
