Ramadan Soccer League (5 hours)

ICBR Event and Host organizer: Abdullah Shahid (12259160702)

Posts made:

This month was a prductive month in volunteering. This month I volunteered for two different events one was at the Restore Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans and the other was for the 2025 Ramadan Soccer League that took place during Ramadan. The month of March was the month of Ramadan where muslims must fast from sunset to sunrise and it is a religious month for us. Every year the community in Baton Rouge does a league event that is tournament like and reuiqres help. Due to my rpior experiecne of hosting basketball league events and making social media posts, Abdullah Shahid the main organizer of the ICBR needed someone to make posts for the Ramadan Soccer League that was taking place. This required me to use softwares Adobe Photoshop to make social media posts that represent the scores and the games that took place. It is always a great time being part of these events espically since this year the ramadan soccer league grew from 50 members to 60. It is definiely a much more serious event that takes place in the community but being able to be part of it and handling the back side of the event was a pleasure.

Habitat for Hummanity ReStore (3 hours)

On March 29, I went to the Habitat for Hummanity Furniture Store with Rohan Patel and helped the crew. The staff needed help moving heavy objects throughout the store such as boxes that required a palletjack. We also got to meet the staff and had a great time there. The furniture store was very busy and live on that Saturday and required alot of work but it was a fun time because it was rewaridng seeing how much we helped the staff. The staff even stated how with our help they were able to leave earlier. Being a student in pharmacology at Tulane School of Medicine helped me become closer to the community in New Orleans. Since New Orleans is the place that I see myself staying for the next year, being part of the program helped me gain more connections and oppurtunities to attend these kind of events.

This month we also went over Pyschopharmacology in our program. This was a very interesting module because learning about the one of the most vital brains and how it can change our perception and how it can be altered by many different disorders was intriguing. This reminded me of the various psychiatry pateints I saw in the emergency room as a medical scribe in 2022 and the different ways to treat disorders such as PTSD which caused me to gain an insight and reflect back on the expereicnes that I had at the time.
